- 89.6 & 89.8 FM
- About 30 MB an hour online
- Ranked 6th of 23 stations (2023)
Quick answer: Open the Timveni Radio page on timveni.org.mw (the Listen live now button below goes straight there) and tap the play button on the Timveni Online player. It is free and uses about 30 MB of data an hour. In Malawi you can also tune in on 89.6 FM or 89.8 FM.
Three ways to listen
Listen live on your phone
No app and no sign-up. All you need is a browser and some data or Wi-Fi.
Open the Timveni Radio page
Tap the Listen live now button at the top of this guide. It opens the Timveni Radio page on timveni.org.mw.
Going from Timveni’s home page instead? Open the menu and pick Timveni Platforms, then Timveni Radio. The Listen button on the home page shows a “Not Found” page at the moment, so skip it.
Tap play on the Timveni Online player
Under the words Click to listen! is a blue player bar with the Timveni logo. Tap the play triangle on the left of the bar.

The play button is on the left of the blue bar. Listen, and stop when you are done
The word playing appears under the station name and the sound starts after a few seconds. The play button turns into a square. Tap it to stop.

Playing: tap the square to stop.
Keep the tab open. The sound stops if you close the Timveni page or tap the square.
Timveni Radio FM frequencies
Timveni uses two frequencies, 89.6 and 89.8 FM, the same pair MACRA lists for it in the national plan. Timveni says it now broadcasts nationwide. It does not publish a list of which town uses which number, so try both.
- 89.6 FM
- 89.8 FM
Across Malawi
- 89.6FMTry first
- 89.8FMThen try
Which one is mine? Tune to 89.6 first. If the sound is weak or crackly, try 89.8 and keep the clearer one. If neither comes in where you live, use Way 1.
No radio set? Use your phone’s FM app
- Plug in wired earphones. The cable is the aerial, so Bluetooth earphones will not work.
- Open the FM Radio app. Many Tecno, itel and Infinix phones have one built in.
- Type 89.6 or 89.8, or tap Scan and pick Timveni from the list.
- Want the loudspeaker? Switch the sound to the speaker, but leave the earphones plugged in.
It uses no data and no airtime. iPhones do not have an FM app, so use Way 1.
How much data does Timveni Online use?
Timveni streams at 64 kbps (we measured it in October 2026). That is a little more than MBC (about 25 MB an hour) and about twice as much as Times Radio, Zodiak or Radio Maria (about 15 MB an hour). Live radio keeps using data until you press stop. More ways to stretch a bundle: our mobile data guide.
Watch the shows, or catch up later
Timveni says most of its programmes are streamed live on its Facebook page, so you can watch the studio as well as hear it. Its YouTube channel has clips and Timveni TV programmes.
Video uses far more data than radio. An hour of Facebook live video can use 10 times the 30 MB above. On a small bundle, stick to Way 1.
Who runs Timveni Radio?
Timveni Radio is run by Timveni Child and Youth Media Organisation, a registered trust based in Lilongwe. Timveni was launched as a child and youth media organisation in 2011 to give children and young people, especially girls, a voice on their rights. It has since grown into a full media house with a radio station and Timveni TV.
The station plays music and talk aimed at young people, with news and sport. Shows on Timveni’s schedule include In the Morning (Monday to Saturday, 6:30am), The Bridge (weekdays, 11am), The Cruise (weekdays, 4pm) and Sports Parliament (Saturday, 9 to 11am). Timveni says a May to June 2023 MACRA and National Statistical Office survey ranked it 6th of 23 national radio stations, with a 7.0% share of listeners.

Timveni Radio FAQ
Is it free to listen online?
Yes. There is no fee, account or app needed. You only pay for the data you use, about 30 MB an hour.
Can I listen from outside Malawi?
Yes. The player on timveni.org.mw works anywhere in the world. Malawi is on Central Africa Time (GMT+2), so check the time at home before your favourite show.
Is Timveni only for young people?
No. Anyone can listen. Timveni makes its programmes with young people in mind, and its mission is to put children’s and young people’s views in front of decision makers, but the music, news and sport are for everyone.
Is there a Timveni app?
We could not find an official Timveni app. The website player needs no install. Avoid “Malawi radio” apps from other developers that only repackage the stream.
Is Timveni on TV too?
Yes. Timveni TV is a separate channel. Timveni’s website lists it on GOtv channel 803 and MDBNL channel 102.
