- 104.0 & 104.2 FM
- About 60 MB an hour online
- On air since 2002
Quick answer: Open the Listen Live page on radioalinafe.com (the Listen live now button below goes straight there) and tap the round white play button. It is free and uses about 60 MB of data an hour. In the Central Region you can also tune in on 104.0 FM or 104.2 FM.
Three ways to listen
Listen live on your phone
No app and no sign-up. All you need is a browser and some data or Wi-Fi.
Open the Listen Live page
Tap the Listen live now button at the top of this guide. It opens the Listen Live page on radioalinafe.com.
Going from the station’s home page instead? Tap Listen Live in the menu, or use the small player on the home page.
Tap the round play button
Under the Radio Alinafe logo is a blue card that says Now broadcasting. Tap the round white play button on the left of the card.

The play button is the white circle on the left. Listen, and pause when you are done
The card changes to You are listening live, the sound bars start moving and the sound starts after a few seconds. The play button turns into a pause button. Tap it to stop.

Playing: tap the two bars to stop.
Keep the tab open. The sound stops if you close the Radio Alinafe page or tap pause.
Radio Alinafe FM frequencies
Radio Alinafe broadcasts on two frequencies, 104.0 and 104.2 FM, in the Central Region. Its studios are in Lilongwe and it serves the Archdiocese of Lilongwe. The station does not publish a list of which town uses which number, so try both.
- 104.0 FM
- 104.2 FM
Lilongwe and the Central Region
- 104.0FMTry first
- 104.2FMThen try
Which one is mine? Tune to 104.0 first. If the sound is weak or crackly, try 104.2 and keep the clearer one. Outside the Central Region, or if neither comes in, use Way 1.
No radio set? Use your phone’s FM app
- Plug in wired earphones. The cable is the aerial, so Bluetooth earphones will not work.
- Open the FM Radio app. Many Tecno, itel and Infinix phones have one built in.
- Type 104.0 or 104.2, or tap Scan and pick Radio Alinafe from the list.
- Want the loudspeaker? Switch the sound to the speaker, but leave the earphones plugged in.
It uses no data and no airtime. iPhones do not have an FM app, so use Way 1.
How much data does Radio Alinafe use online?
Radio Alinafe streams at 128 kbps (we measured it in October 2026). That is about twice as much as Timveni (about 30 MB an hour) and four times as much as Times Radio, Zodiak or Radio Maria (about 15 MB an hour). The sound is clearer, but a small bundle goes faster. Live radio keeps using data until you press pause. More ways to stretch a bundle: our mobile data guide.
Catch up on videos and church news
We found no way to replay past shows, but Radio Alinafe posts videos on YouTube and church and national news on its website and Facebook page.
Video uses far more data than radio. On a small bundle, stick to Way 1 or Way 2.
Who runs Radio Alinafe?
Radio Alinafe is the radio station of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe. Its studios are on the Maula Cathedral campus in Lilongwe. It went on air in March 2002, starting from a very small studio in the bishop’s garage, and most of its team are volunteers. Its motto is Deepening Love in Our Society (Kuzamitsa Chikondi Pakati Pathu).
Most programmes are in Chichewa, with some in English. The day runs from 5am to midnight and is built around prayer: Mass and Eucharist songs every morning at 6am, the Angelus at 6am, noon and 6pm, and Mass again in the evening. Weekdays also bring Morning Pressure (8am), the phone-in greetings show Mafuno Abwino pa Lamya ndi SMS (9am), Vatican News Focus on Africa (10:30am) and Kwaya ya Lero choir music (1:30pm). There are also health, farming, youth and children’s catechism programmes, and Alinafe Sports on Saturday (9am) and Sunday (5:30pm).

Radio Alinafe FAQ
Is it free to listen online?
Yes. There is no fee, account or app needed. You only pay for the data you use, about 60 MB an hour.
Can I listen from outside Malawi?
Yes. The player on radioalinafe.com works anywhere in the world. Malawi is on Central Africa Time (GMT+2), so check the time at home before Mass or your favourite show.
Is Radio Alinafe only for Catholics?
No. Anyone can listen. The station is Catholic and its programmes are built around the faith, but the news, health, farming and music shows are for everyone.
Is Radio Alinafe the same as Radio Maria Malawi?
No. Both are Catholic stations, but Radio Alinafe belongs to the Archdiocese of Lilongwe and mainly serves the Central Region. Radio Maria Malawi is a separate station run by the Association of Radio Maria Malawi. See our Radio Maria guide.
I have 97.1 FM written down. Is that still Radio Alinafe?
Some radio directories still list 97.1 FM for Lilongwe and 96.3 FM for Dowa. The station’s own website now gives 104.0 and 104.2 FM, so use those.
Is there a Radio Alinafe app?
We could not find an official Radio Alinafe app. The website player needs no install. Avoid “Malawi radio” apps from other developers that only repackage the stream.
