- 90.8 & 91.0 FM
- About 60 MB an hour online
- Studios in Limbe
Quick answer: Open the Radio Islam Malawi page on Zeno.fm (the Listen live now button below goes straight there) and tap the black Listen button. It is free and uses about 60 MB of data an hour. On FM, try 90.8 or 91.0, the numbers Malawi’s regulator MACRA gives the station.
Three ways to listen
Listen live on your phone
No app and no sign-up. All you need is a browser and some data or Wi-Fi.
Open the Radio Islam Malawi page on Zeno.fm
Tap the Listen live now button at the top of this guide. It opens Radio Islam Malawi on zeno.fm, a free radio site that carries the station’s live stream.
Searching yourself? Look for Radio Islam Malawi with the round green logo that says Education for the Nation. Stations in South Africa and elsewhere also use the name Radio Islam.
Tap the black Listen button
Under the round station logo is a black button that says Listen. Tap it.

The Listen button is under the station logo. Listen, and pause when you are done
The sound starts after a few seconds and the button changes to Pause. A small player also appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap Pause to stop.

Playing: tap Pause to stop.
An advert may play first. Zeno.fm is free because it sometimes shows or plays a short advert before the radio starts. Wait a few seconds, or close the advert with its small x. Keep the page open while you listen.
Radio Islam FM frequencies
MACRA’s current FM plan gives Radio Islam two national frequencies, 90.8 and 91.0 FM. It does not say which town uses which, and the station does not publish a list, so try both. Older radio directories still list the station’s earlier numbers, such as 97.6 FM for Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Which one is mine? Tune to 90.8 first. If the sound is weak or crackly, try 91.0 and keep the clearer one. Nothing there? Try the old 97.6, or tap Scan on your radio. If none of them comes in, use Way 1.
No radio set? Use your phone’s FM app
- Plug in wired earphones. The cable is the aerial, so Bluetooth earphones will not work.
- Open the FM Radio app. Many Tecno, itel and Infinix phones have one built in.
- Type 90.8 or 91.0, or tap Scan and pick Radio Islam from the list.
- Want the loudspeaker? Switch the sound to the speaker, but leave the earphones plugged in.
It uses no data and no airtime. iPhones do not have an FM app, so use Way 1.
How much data does Radio Islam use online?
Radio Islam streams at 128 kbps (we measured it in October 2026), the same as Radio ABC and Radio Alinafe. That is about twice as much as Timveni (about 30 MB an hour) and four times as much as Times Radio, Zodiak or Radio Maria (about 15 MB an hour). The sound is clearer, but a small bundle goes faster. Live radio keeps using data until you press pause. More ways to stretch a bundle: our mobile data guide.
Prefer an app? Use Zeno.fm
We could not find a Radio Islam Malawi app of its own, and we found no way to replay past shows. The free Zeno.fm app plays the same live stream as Way 1.
Find Radio Islam in the Zeno.fm app
- Install Zeno.fm from the Play Store or App Store.
- Search for Radio Islam Malawi and pick the one with the green Education for the Nation logo.
- Tap play, then tap the heart to save it for next time.
Avoid “Malawi radio” apps from other developers that only repackage streams. Some still list an old Radio Islam link that no longer plays.
Who is Radio Islam Malawi?
Radio Islam Malawi is the country’s Islamic radio station. Its studios are in Limbe, Blantyre, and its motto is Education for the Nation. Alongside Islamic teaching, it carries news and programmes on health, development, farming and wildlife.
The station shares programmes with Channel Islam International, a Muslim satellite radio station in South Africa, and has carried programmes in Chiyao, the language of many Muslim communities around Lake Malawi and the south. Sources disagree on when it first went on air, so we have left the year out.

Radio Islam FAQ
Is it free to listen online?
Yes. There is no fee, account or app needed. You only pay for the data you use, about 60 MB an hour. Zeno.fm may show a short advert first.
Can I listen from outside Malawi?
Yes. The Zeno.fm player works anywhere in the world. Malawi is on Central Africa Time (GMT+2), so check the time at home before your favourite programme.
Is Radio Islam only for Muslims?
No. Anyone can listen. The station is built around Islamic teaching, but its news and its health and farming programmes are for everyone.
I have 97.6 FM written down. Is that still Radio Islam?
97.6 FM is the number most radio directories give for Blantyre. MACRA’s newer national plan gives the station 90.8 and 91.0 FM. Try 90.8 and 91.0 first, and fall back to 97.6 if that is where your radio still finds it.
Is this the same as Radio Islam in South Africa?
No. Radio Islam South Africa is a separate station in Johannesburg. When you search, pick Radio Islam Malawi.
Why does TuneIn say the station is not available?
Some directories, including TuneIn, still point to an old stream that has stopped. The Zeno.fm page in Way 1 is the one we tested and it plays.
