- 88.8 & 89.0 FM
- About 15 MB an hour online
- Chichewa & English
Quick answer: Open times.mw/times-radio on your phone, scroll to the Times Radio player and tap play. It is free and uses about 15 MB of data an hour. In Malawi you can also tune in on 88.8 FM or 89.0 FM, depending on your town.
Three ways to listen
Listen live on your phone
No app and no sign-up. All you need is a browser and some data or Wi-Fi.
Open the Times Radio page
In Chrome, Safari or any browser, go to times.mw/times-radio. Or tap the red Listen live now button at the top of this guide.
If a bar saying By using this site… covers the bottom of the screen, tap Accept to clear it.
Scroll down and tap play
Scroll past the Discover more box until you see the Times Radio logo. The play triangle is on the right, under the logo.

The play button sits on the right, under the logo. You are live
The triangle turns into a pause button and the sound starts after a few seconds. Use your phone’s volume buttons or the slider next to the speaker icon.

Playing: the button now shows pause.
Keep the page open while you listen. On most phones the sound keeps going when the screen locks. Using Opera Mini and nothing plays? Turn its data saving mode off, or open the page in Chrome.

No radio set? Use your phone’s FM app
- Plug in wired earphones. The cable is the aerial, so Bluetooth earphones will not work.
- Open the FM Radio app. Many Tecno, itel and Infinix phones have one built in.
- Type 88.8 or 89.0, or tap Scan and pick Times from the list.
- Want the loudspeaker? Switch the sound to the speaker, but leave the earphones plugged in.
It uses no data and no airtime. iPhones do not have an FM app, so use Way 1.
How much data does Times Radio use?
Times streams at 32 kbps, lighter than most Malawian stations online (we measured it in October 2026). Live radio keeps using data until you press pause. More ways to stretch a bundle: our mobile data guide.
Missed a show? Catch up later
You cannot rewind live radio, but The Times Group shares programmes and clips online after they air.
Who runs Times Radio?
Times Radio belongs to The Times Group, publisher of The Daily Times and Malawi News, with roots going back to 1895. The group bought the station, then called Matindi FM, in 2015 and relaunched it as Times Radio.
The station says most of its programmes are made in Malawi, and about half are in Chichewa.

Times Radio FAQ
Is it free to listen online?
Yes. There is no fee, account or app. You only pay for the data you use, about 15 MB an hour.
Can I listen from outside Malawi?
Yes. The player on times.mw works anywhere in the world. Malawi is on Central Africa Time (GMT+2), so check the time at home before a show.
Is there a Times Radio app?
The Times Group has a news app called Times360 on Google Play, but we could not confirm it plays the radio. The website player is the safest choice. Be careful with unofficial “Times Radio” apps from unknown developers, which are often full of ads.
Is Times Radio on TuneIn?
TuneIn lists Malawi Times Radio, but when we tested it in October 2026 the station would not play there. Use the player on times.mw.
My smart speaker plays the wrong Times Radio. Why?
There is also a Times Radio in the UK, and voice assistants usually pick that one. Use your phone’s browser instead.
