Mibawa Radio
The radio side of Mibawa, the Blantyre entertainment house behind Mibawa TV. Tune in on 98.8 or 99.0 FM, depending on where you live. Its online stream was not working when we tested it, so FM is the sure way for now.
- 98.8 & 99.0 FM
- FM uses no data
- Part of Mibawa, Blantyre
Quick answer: Tune your radio to 98.8 FM in Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and other main towns, or 99.0 FM in places like Zomba, Dedza, Rumphi and Mulanje. Those are the numbers Malawi’s regulator MACRA gives Mibawa Radio. The station’s online stream on Zeno.fm did not play when we tested it in October 2026.

Nothing on your number? Try the other one, then tap Scan on your radio. MACRA licenses the frequencies, but a station can be off air in some areas while a transmitter is down or not yet built.
No radio set? Use your phone’s FM app
- Plug in wired earphones. The cable is the aerial, so Bluetooth earphones will not work.
- Open the FM Radio app. Many Tecno, itel and Infinix phones have one built in.
- Type 98.8 or 99.0, or tap Scan and look for Mibawa.
- Want the loudspeaker? Switch the sound to the speaker, but leave the earphones plugged in.
It uses no data and no airtime. iPhones do not have an FM app.
Can I stream Mibawa Radio?
Not reliably for now. Mibawa Radio has a page on Zeno.fm, a free radio site, with the red and black Mibawa Radio logo. When we tested it on 16 October 2026, the Listen button did not start the station: Zeno’s player refused the stream, while other Malawian stations on Zeno played fine in the same test.
Worth a quick check. Streams come back when a station switches its encoder on again. Open the Zeno.fm page and tap Listen. If you hear a recorded show instead of live radio, that is a past episode, not the station. Directory apps that list “Mibawa FM” use the same stream, so they will not play either while it is off.
Who is behind Mibawa Radio?
Mibawa Radio belongs to the Mibawa family in Blantyre, best known for Mibawa TV, the free-to-air entertainment channel that went on air in 2016 and is also carried on DStv. Mibawa grew out of the studios, band and events business that entrepreneur John Nthakomwa built after returning from Ivory Coast in 2011, and its One Stop complex has studios for both radio and television.
Its slogan on Zeno.fm is Creativity that dazzles, and it broadcasts in Chichewa and English. In January 2024 Nthakomwa retired as managing director, saying the free-to-air model was hard to sustain. We could not find a station website, a programme schedule or a launch date for the radio, so we have left those out.

Mibawa Radio FAQ
Is Mibawa Radio the same as Mibawa TV?
They are part of the same Mibawa group in Blantyre, but they are different services. Mibawa TV is a television channel. Mibawa Radio is on FM. The Mibawa TV app is for television and does not carry the radio.
Is it called Mibawa Radio or Mibawa FM?
Both names are used. MACRA’s licence list says Mibawa Radio. Many radio directories say Mibawa FM. It is the same station.
Why does the online stream not play?
The Zeno.fm stream was switched off or blocked when we tested it in October 2026. Only the station can turn it back on. Use FM in the meantime.
Can I listen from outside Malawi?
Only online, and the stream was not working when we checked. If that changes, the Zeno.fm page will work from anywhere.
Which frequency should I try first?
In Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and the other towns marked 98.8 above, start with 98.8. Elsewhere start with 99.0, then try the other one.
