How it started

In 2025, Gift Mwale started Zaku Malawi with a simple idea. Too many everyday questions about life in Malawi had no clear home online. School term dates, mobile money fees, sports scores, and local news often lived in scattered WhatsApp groups and rumor chains.

Gift wanted one site people could open on a phone and trust. Not a government office. Not a gossip page. A small team that writes like neighbors, checks facts when it matters, and keeps things easy to read.

What we do

Zaku Malawi covers news, sports, business, science and technology, culture, travel, and practical guides. We also make space for community stories from across the country and the diaspora.

Our goal is to become a useful layer of the Malawian internet. A place you bookmark when you need an answer, not just a headline to scroll past.

How we work

Mobile first. Most readers use a phone. We design for small screens and slow connections.

Plain language. We write for everyone, not just experts. If a topic needs a special word, we explain it once.

Sources when it counts. Time-sensitive facts like fees, dates, and official rules get linked to real sources.

Two languages. English publishes first. Chichewa follows when it adds value for readers.
